Fishing
Report - Jan. 18
CAPLES LAKE, CALIF.: Dave Kirby of the
Woodfords General Store (530 694-2930) said there is good ice
fishing. The ice is about 18 inches thick, more than enough for
ice fishing. Some limits were caught by the dam nearest Kirkwood.
Ice fishermen were catching fish by jigging with worms. Doug Busey
of Douglas County reported he tried to fish over the weekend, but
got blown off by a fierce wind. |

River
Dance
Slip into the skirt, put your nose plugs on and
get ready to brace yourself. It's time to go river dancing. The
heat waves of summer may be closing out, but for whitewater kayak
enthusiasts, plenty of mountain surfing remains and will remain
almost year-round. |

Laser
sailing is fast, fun and affordable
Sailing is often associated with fancy yacht
clubs, dapper clothes and half-million dollar boats. But Laser
sailors want people to know a there's a cheaper, more boisterous
aspect to the sport. |

Ski
Donner Summit,
CA – Like a fine wine, the rich flavor of Sugar Bowl just
continues to improve with age. Refreshing, good natured customer
service has always been the main ingredient at Sugar Bowl, but the
recent improvements have now made the resort more than appetizing.
The four express quads accessing the entire mountain will
certainly give you your fill of the Bowl’s mouth-watering
terrain. And their second entrance at Mt. Judah with direct access
to beginner and intermediate fare ensures that there is something
on the menu for everyone. Add a grand base lodge, extensive
snowmaking upgrades, a new Super Pipe and a smorgasbord of other
mountain improvements to the recipe and you too will appreciate
the sweet taste of Sugar Bowl.
Everyone knows that Sugar Bowl has the friendliest staff around
and that is what puts them a cut above. The mood starts at the top
with President and CEO, Rob Kautz, who proclaims, “our people
love the mountain and love what they’re doing and that’s the
key to making Sugar Bowl fun.” Guests take notice immediately.
It is more than just happy greetings and smiles that you’ll
observe, Sugar Bowl intrinsically exudes a warmth that everyone
appreciates. The genuine, friendly atmosphere is like a secret
ingredient that you can’t quite make out, but somehow deep down,
you know that’s what makes Sugar Bowl so appetizing. Maybe Sugar
Bowl’s friendliness and warmth started with Walt Disney, one of
the original founders 63 years ago, or possibly it is just the
crisp thin, mountain air high atop Donner Summit, but without a
doubt people always feel welcome and they are glad they came back
to taste it again for the first time.
